Is it lame for a guy to not know much about car repairs?

i don't know how to change oil or do any fixing

i know how to put in gas

i know how to change tires cause i read about it but i don't know if i have strength to do change by myself



girls, would you get frustrated at your men if your car broke down in the middle of nowhere but your man doesn't know how to fix it?Is it lame for a guy to not know much about car repairs?
I think as long as you tried what you know I wouldn't get frustrated but if you are in a relationship I would suggest getting a manual for whatever kind of car your girl had so you would at least look like you were trying. My boyfriend suggests Chiltons books from Autozone it will save you a lot of money and make you look really good.Is it lame for a guy to not know much about car repairs?

You just gotta know the basics man, there's dudes that go to community college and become mechanics so you dont have to...Its more embarrasing for girls to have their make up done professionaly... are they that dumb that they cant look in a mirror on put on their mask????
Why should a guy know any more about car repairs than a girl would? Unless you are doing some strange car repair that requires you to unzip your pants, which I wouldn't want to know about.
Not much you can do on a new car these days. to many sensors and computers to diagnose. Get triple A and they can change your tires or tow it to a shop. No big deal I know alot about cars and I cant remember it ever getting me laid.
Its a good skill to have. It will save you a lot of money.My father is teaching my 16 year old how to fix the cars.He got a Mazda mx6 and has had to do a lot of repairs on it.My dad also taught my x-husband how to repair the cars.We have never used a shop.I hate to say it but I like a man who is self sufficient,but if you can afford the repairs then there wouldn't be a dead car in the driveway either.
Its just a hollywood fabricated myth, the typical macho man that can do anything.
I guess I would prefer a man that can do the simple things because I can change a tire and change oil. I know with the new type of cars a lot of men can't fix their car, hell! you have to hook up the car to a computer now a days to find out what wrong with most things. So I guess if it a flat. yes. Anything else, no.

It's all what you are into. My friends have a theory that guys either know a lot about sports or a lot about cars.
uhm,,,,I think you should at least know how to change the oil,,,spark plugs,,,and little things like that...
1st thing is you admit you dont know about cars good for you 2nd on changing a tire if i was you id try it some time find a good flat place to do it that way you can say that you do know how to
Hopefully you have applied yourself in areas that allow you to create an income that allows you to buy a car is problem free.



Who changes thier own oil anyway these days? You can get it done at Wallmart for $15. How much is your time worth?



If you think that you have to impress a girl with you car repair skills.....you muct be a Redneck.
I do believe that is why we have ';Lube'; shops, towing coverage on our insurance, and cell phones. Not every guy is a Mr. Fix-it. Since you know how to put in gas, and change a tire you are that much ahead of a lot of people. Don't even waste a worry on it.
NO...it is not bad that you are a guy and you do not know much about car repair. There are lots of comments on here saying that its not right...blah....blah...blah...lets see how much they know!



I would recommend having AAA or if you can't learning some basics could come in handy.



But not knowing too much is not a bad thing, there are things girls know that guys don't know and have no desire to know about...
No, if you know something else really well.



Like, a mechanic won't know know how to repair a computer and even use one.



I know how to setup a guitar and do modifications and still know nuts about cars, but I can still repair a computer.



The thing is, it's much lamer for a guy to not use any opportunity to learn something new. Like if I own a car, I would certainly want to know how to do simple repairs.



So, it's all the attitude behind it.
Its not entirely lame, though it does not just applies to guys, but also to females, well anyone who drives actually. Its not important per se, but it would be to your benefit to know basic stuff about cars, the least you should know is how to put in gas.

there are basic things you should know take an auto shop in a high school near you

oil you should know

air filter you should know

spark plugs you should know

and cars with all the computer crap in them now i dont bother with

here is what i do since 1986 lease and before the warranty is up get a new one but only if you know you are going to have a car payment for ever then get a truck you look cooler

and as you can tell i am an old guy so i can not change tires anymore but they do not go flat like they used to and warranty do it for you
