WHOW THERE NELLIE, if you have 20K miles on a set of tires, whats the factory mileage rating on them, UNLESS you have really beat them up, most all car tires should go 35K PLUS before needing replaced, providing the car had a decent alignment. Meaning the tire wear is not unusual.

You can have them checked at a lot of tire places to see if you have unsafe tires, but I'm betting you have plenty of life left in them.

for a long road trip, a tune up, maybe a tire rotation, maybe getting them rebalanced, clean air filter, Tires inflated to the proper pressure, road maps, spare tire (if needed). How Far do you think you can drive in a day?

With 2 drivers in a 9 year old carwith 140K miles already on it, we drove about 750 miles a day on a long trip several years ago. Stopping for personal breaks, meals at fast food places, then a good bed at nite.Going to make a 1600 mile road trip in Corolla 95. Has 120 k miles on it, tires are 20k miles old?
u need to change ur tires, get a tune up, definetly tires.
If someone is checking you oil, water and brakes, have them evaluate your tires. I can't see them and it is more of a visual thing(depending on how you drive and the quality of your tires in the first place) As for the number of miles a day. Whatever you feel like.

I don't stop except for gas and that is once so I get about 600 in a day on interior highways that transect many towns. Properly inflated tires are not an issue.

Make sure they are about 30psi and you are good to go.
Your tires only have 20k miles ? They should be good for at least 40 k ! Oil change , Coolant check, and or flush ! A good tune up won't hurt anything. Proper air pressure in tires, belt inspection is real important !!! Brakes checked, all lights checked. Be sure to have a quart of oil, a gallon of 50/50 antifreeze, map, flashlite, emergency gas subsitute, a good spare tire,a car jack, lug wrench, cell phone for emergency use. Be sure to have nationwide service added to your cell if you don't have it ! A GPS. system is worth investing in if you don't have one. Triple A is nice to have for traveling, don't cost very much, alot of benifets if you have any trouble. Good luck my friend ! Drive safe !!
