Do you think it would be fun if Nascar raced semi's?

i thought about this today. the rigs that haul their races look pretty sweet. i wonder what it would be like if they raced one of those things.

i'd like to see how the pit crew would deal with something like that. when changing tires, would they push it along side they do now, or would they have to forklift them?

what do you think of such thing?

the only real downside would that it might be dangerous to something like this, is that those safer barrier walls may not be able to stop something that big going too fast if it should happen to crash.Do you think it would be fun if Nascar raced semi's?
Jay mentioned GATR, but there was a more recent re-invention of the racing semi. It was called STRANA, or Super Truck Racers Association of North America. The bad thing about it was that it was going to be road course racing, and would race in conjunction with the ALMS (American LeMans Series). Unfortunately, they never really got it off the ground. They did have some ';big names'; run the trucks in some exhibition races, such as Brian Simo, Boris Said, Ron Fellows, and a few others.....all road course ';ringers.'; I really wish that they had gotten the series going, as I was going to move up from off-road to the Super Trucks. STRANA folded in 2002. I think their website is still active, but hasn't been updated in like 6 years. If you do a google search for STRANA, you might be able to access it.Do you think it would be fun if Nascar raced semi's?
It would be too spendy and not that exciting of racing. They DO have tractor races somewhere though, I've seen a clip of it. Taking old buses and racing them is kind of cool, especially when they do it on one of those figure 8 tracks.
I'd admit that would be fun to watch. I dont think the teams would let the rig's that carry the cars to the tracks race. But having a more affordable version race would be cool. But like you said I think safety would be a big concern, to fans and the drivers.
I remember back in the 70s, maybe early 80s there used to be GATR (Great American Truck Racing) This used to be awesome to watch. I don't remember how or if they did pit stops. Yes, I wish they would bring real truck racing back! I would be into it. Watching the trucks race on road courses in Europe is pretty wild.
It would be interesting and fun to watch, but I don't think Nascar should start funning semi's.
I remember watching some of those events on TV back in the Past and Bert Reynolds driving on in Smokey the Bandit. They wouldnt fit to well on the Short tracks though!!!!!
I remember one !!!

Held here in Atlanta, back in the mid 80's !!!! Didn't go personally... but they've had it before.
Interesting concept. It would be kool to watch, but the ';big one'; would really be a BIG one. Like Steevo said, I have seen tractor races before, but not lately.

Go Jr.%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
no
especially if they were pulling their trailers.
I went to one at Atlanta one time. When they would wreck I thought they were going to tear down the walls. It was fun to watch. Not many trucks started. I think it was around 10 or 15. Also there was alot of blown tires. I think there is a tour in Europe that races them now. You could probably find it on line somewhere. Maybe on some video web site. hint, hint.

How much will this cost ballpark?

Recnetly ive noticed that my car needs new brakes. When I brake going over 50mph my car starts to shake. Is that my rotors? If so how much would new brakes rotars, oil change, tire rotation and alighnment cost me ballpark??How much will this cost ballpark?
What you are describing is called variations from parallel or in simple terms a warped rotor. If the rotor has sufficient material left, it can be resurfaced and reused. This is part of a normal brake service. Typical charge for this service is around $125.00 for both fronts or both rear brakes. If they require replacing, typical cost is about $70.00 per rotor. Oil change $30.00, Tire rotation is usually complimentary with getting the brakes done. Most shops charge about $69.00 for a alignment. The shaking of the steering wheel will stop after the brakes are serviced. Good LuckHow much will this cost ballpark?
You need to tell people what kind of car your drive, silly.
could also be a ball joint. Is the shake in the seat, or the steering wheel?

Sounds likea ball joint or something in the suspension. you will also get a shake at low speeds if it was a warped rotor. I would take it to get aligned first your breaks may be fine, sears won't charge you for the alignment if it can't be done which means you can get the inspection of the steering for free, then decide what to do from there.

Best of luck.
could be bad calipers and bad rotors/gets a little pricey if its complete rebuild/why alignment are tires wearing funny??do all the brakes/rotate should be included(wheels are off) and the oil service/dont know where you live but i figure whole thing 800
it will be better to take it to a mechanic..... they will take a look at your car then tell you how much it will be. im pretty sure it wont be that expensive.
You should be able to get all four breaks fixed for $500 to $800 depending on what you need...oil change and alighnment $75 more. I would also recommend that you get ceramic breaks they are just better breaks, will last longer stop better, and won't leave as much dust on your rims and should only cost about $20 more than standard breaks.

How much does it usually cost to Maintain an BMW? How many miles can you usually put on a BMW? MPG??

I am just interested in a 2001 BMW, and my family knows nothing about the car. So they are scared to buy it. I just want to know how much it usually cost to rotate tires, change oil, how many miles to the gallon they get, if they are good cars, and how many miles can you usually put on the car. Thanks! How much does it usually cost to Maintain an BMW? How many miles can you usually put on a BMW? MPG??
The BMW,s six cylinder in line, gives your better performance and mileage.

I have 520i manual.done 176,000 miles still the engine sounds smooth as new.I can clock upto 400,000-500,000 easily, without major job on the engine.

Many factors contribute to life span, regular service, prompt worn out parts change, proper handling of the car, proper inflated tyres ,proper recommended fluids used, etc.

At a steady speed of 70/2650RPM on 5th gear.on highways.I get 36-38MPG

.

in town I get 28-30MPG.In traffic jams gets 25MPG.

SUGGEST U GET A QUALIFIED MECHANIC TO TEST THE AND GIVE YOU HIS OPINION.

bmw,s are wonderful machines on the road. I can assure you that.

Daringly try one BMW and you not regret at all.But choose the good and accident free one.

Wishing you luck to be BMW owner soon. How much does it usually cost to Maintain an BMW? How many miles can you usually put on a BMW? MPG??
To put it simply, the price to operate and maintain a BMW goes up with the higher number the series you have. 3 series cars will generally be the cheapest to maintain, repair and will use the least amount of fuel. The 5, X5 costs more and the 7 series will cost the most. The ///M line of BMW's are specialty models and I would not recommend buying one if MPG and maintenance is your primary concern.

In real-world conditions anticipate the following for fuel economy. If you are buying a 7 series, expect 14-17 MPG city and 22-26 MPG Highway. A 5 or X5 will depend on the engine choice. For the V8, you will average the same 14-17 and 22-26 as the 7 series. If its a 6 Cylinder, MPG's will improve to 17-21 MPG city and 24-27 MPG highway. The 3 series cars will yield even better MPG with 18-23 City and 25-29 MPG highway.

Tires on all BMW's are mid-priced unless it is a ';Sport'; line. Those tires are often low-profile and will cost considerably more. Oil changes are full-synthetic on all BMW's since the late 90's. I strongly advise against using the dealership for this service as they will approach $100 for a simple oil change. Instead, find a competent mechanic or do-it-yourselfer friend as oil changes on BMW's is an extremely easy task.

As far as long-term reliability, expect considerably more maintenance and repairs after your BMW hits 100,000 miles. BMW's paint and body work is one of the worlds finest. With normal washings and waxing, a BMW will experience very minimal rusting, if at all.

If properly maintained, a BMW will give you years of excellent service!
if you are unsure whether you can afford to run a bmw then do not buy it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?i have a 540 on motorway runs sticking to 70mph 34.4 mpg in town 20 - 23 mpg engine service around 拢300 good cars until you have to put them right just like any other car my car has now done 145000 miles no problems ive seen them with 500000 mile plus

Help me change a tire?

i know how to do the whole thing. i just never used a jack like this. instead of having a point of contact to meet with the notch on the underside of my car this jack has a much broader, flatter end. it should go against another flat surface but i don't know where. i'm not a fan of cars so don't give me a list of car parts. please give me an idea of what part of the car is best for holding its entire weight.

the rest of the tire change is under control.Help me change a tire?
You can place it under the frame near the tire, or under a rear shock if it's the rear tire. The frame is just in from the edge of your car. Runs pretty much from front tire to rear tire.Help me change a tire?
CHECK THE MANUAL.
you need to put it on the axle

or the frame
What kind of car do you have? Is it a car, an SUV, a truck? Is the piece a flat plateau like part? If so, it may need to be placed under the lift points. There is usually one lift point at the front and one at the back of the car. Check in your owner's manual and you can also call the maker (Chevy, Mazda, Honda, etc) of your car for help or to buy a different jack.
check the owners manual...it goes on a flange underneath the drivers or passenger side door. they may also be instructions in the well with the spare tire. make sure you put it on properly...so that it does not slip!
question is not complete Is it back wheel or front wheel. usually there is a space for keeping jack for any vehicle. So keep the jack near to tyre which was to repair below the axle
If you're a woman, there should be a man near by who would want to help you, or anyway show you.
While the car is still flat on the ground, loosen the bolts with your feet by putting the crow bar on the bolts and loosening it with your body weight via the feet. Then use the jack to lift the car, take the bolts off, then take off the tire, then put on the new tire, screw on the new bolts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the bolts with your feet.

Then you should be awight!!
You have the jack upsidedown, The flat part goes on the ground.
Most likely there will be a frame rail running along the side of the car beneath the doors, usually about eight to ten inches from the bottom of the doors. You can place the jack under this rail and then jack it up slowly and watch for any distortion of the rail. If it looks strong enough, proceed. The alternative is to place the jack under the axle and jack that up.
These cheeky bastards here think that they can win your ten points by stating the obvious. I happen to know that the flat part of the jack goes on the inside concave part of your armpit. Whilst jacking your pit must be perpendicular to the ground at all times, or your Kneuter valve may explode, causing your Johnson rods to hang far below the federal standard. Try to keep your chin up, and hopefully by now some unsuspecting, halfway good looking man has come along and taken control of the situation. As for your answer about yams, I would argue the availability of Yams on the market is quite strong. Although the common Beauregard sweet potato has felched it's way into the market mysteriously mis-labeled as a yam, any true yam enthusiast would laugh in the eyes of such an impostor. Ha, I say.

New tires?

I have a 2000 Toyota Avalon with about 85,000 miles on it; tires have never been changed. Winter's coming up (I moved to Denver 2 years ago from LA...winters are bad here) and I admit I'm not knowligable when it comes to cars, but I just did the penny check on them. The 2 back tires are fine, but the front tires are bald... so when I get my tires changed, do I just change the front two or all four? Also, how long does the process take, and about how much can I expect to pay?New tires?
OK, how about a real answer for a change?

I live in Minnesota, so I understand your climate needs and I work in the tire industry so unlike the other people who have responded so far, I have some idea what I'm talking about.

I find it shocking that you would still be riding on the original hoops after 80k miles and 7 years. When new these cars came equipped with either Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires (15-inch) or Michelin MXV4+ (16-inch), neither of which has a reputation for lasting much longer than 40k miles and the Bridgestone's are horrendous in snow even when new. If you still had those you would have got rid of them at the first snowflake. As I alluded to, your 2000 Avalon will have one of two tire sizes fitted: P205/65R15 92H or P205/60R16 91H. I'm not sure which size is fitted to your particular vehicle so I'll make suggestions for both. I have personal experience with all of the tires I will talk about in heat, rain and snow and ice conditions either in the real world, on the test track, or both.

Ignore the guy who said you need ';all-terrain'; tires. That is too ridiculous for a response.

Ignore rick and his advice about ';traction ratings'; too. The UTQG ratings that are given to all passenger tires in the U.S. are about as useful as t-ts on a bull. They don't tell you anything about how a tire is going to perform in the real world.

In either P205/65R15 92H or P205/60R16 91H I can recommend the BF Goodrich Traction T/A H as a competent al-season performer at an attractive price point. 60k mileage warranty on that one.

A better but more expensive choice would be the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity which is really a marvel of tire engineering. Fantastic in every way. 70k mileage warranty to boot

Michelin's Primacy MXV4 is the replacement for the MXV4+ that has been a popular Original Equipment fit tire for many years. The Primacy promises longer wear and better traction and probably has the lowest rolling resistance of the bunch (for good gas mileage). I have not driven this tire in snow yet. It has only been out for a few months so I just have not had a chance, but they should be decent enough. for the money though if it were my own car I would chose the Bridgestone's.

The Goodyear Assurance Tripletread (make sure it is the Tripletread, not the Comfortread) gets great reviews for rain and snow traction and has a very long 80k mileage warranty to boot but I think there are some supply issues with these right now. If you can find them this would be my #2 choice behind the Bridgestones. Someone else mentioned the Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge. I would not recommend this tire to someone living in Denver. That tire is a ';hihg-performance'; tire for people who like to play Mario Andretti around the cloverleafs. You don't strike me as the type. The Tripletreads will be orders-of-magnitude better for the way you use your car.

If it were me and I lived in Denver I would actually invest in 2 sets of wheels and tires - one for summer and one for winter, the latter fitted with tires dedicated specifically for winter use such as the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60. I live in Minnesota and this is what I do on my personal vehicle. A dedicated winter tire like that is just so much better in very cold temperatures, snow and ice than so-called ';all-season'; tires that you can not even compare them. Remember, if you read the fine print ';all-season'; tires are only useful in ';light snow';. Also all-season tires tread rubber loses elasticity (traction) at temperatures below 45-deg F so that even on a cold day without any snow or ice a winter tire will work better than an all-season tire.

The Tirerack.com is a great place to get wheels and winter tires because they are extremely price competitive and will mount and balance the tires at no charge when you buy the wheels at the same time. You can buy just tires from them too and while their tire pricing is very cheap, once you add shipping and the cost to have them mounted on your wheels locally, your nieghborhood tire shop can often beat them on price.

If you are unwilling to make the investment in two sets of tires to optimize your tires performance all year round but care about not dying in a horrible fiery crash in the next blizzard there is an alternative:

The Nokian WR.

These tires are made in Finland (the Finn's know snow and cold) and are regarded as ';all-weather'; tires, not ';all-season';. Basically they are a winter tire, complete with the severe winter service rating on the sidewall but because they don't wear out as quickly as other winter tires you can use them all-year round. I have these tires on my wife's car and they are amazing in the winter - they blow away any all-season tire - and quite good in the summer as well. After 30k miles they are only half-worn which is fantastic given how aggressive they are. Nokian tires should not be hard to find in Denver.

Irregardless of which tire you chose, I always recommend replacing all four so that you have the same traction on all four corners of the car and you can maintain a proper tire rotation schedule which will yield the best wear.

PS

The ';penny check'; is no good. It's a relic from the days when the big concern about tread depth was warranty claims for treadwear, not traction. The penny test shows a tire worn to 2/32'; remaining tread (the legal minimum in most states) but traction begins to fall off dramatically in tires once they wear below 4/32'; remaining tread depth. You need a quarter for that test, not a penny. As apoint of fact, there was a news story just today that Consumer Reports is now recommending tires be replaced at 4/32'; remaining tread, not that I put much faith in their opinions most of the time, but they are right on this one.New tires?
Never been changed? I'd suggest all four and get all terrain tires since you live in Denver. They are a lot better on snow and ice.

Depending on the qrade, brand, quality of tires you get you'll be paying anywhere from around 265.00 to 500.00 for four new tires. That includes mounting them and balancing them.

Expect to spend anywhere from a hour up depending on how busy they are.

I usually try to hit them first thing in the morning before they get busy so I can get in and get out fast.
If your car has ABS brakes, it's always best to get all 4 tires replaced. But the fact that your front tires are bald and the two rears are OK tell us that you don't rotate your tires as you are supposed to.

If your car has all wheel drive, you're always supposed to replace all four tires.

But to answer your question, if you don't have all wheel drive, you can get away with replacing only two front tires. That will fly even if you have ABS brakes. But you may notice some uneven braking during a skid.

Go to tirerack.com and read the tire reviews for the tires available for your vehicle. You want a tire with an ';A'; traction rating. (rated A-C). Temperature ranges are also rated A-C. But it's hard to find a tire with A traction and A temperature rating. A traction has an aggressive tread and that creates more heat. The last number is the treadwear life rating. It starts at 100 and goes up from there. A tire with a rating of 400 will wear 4x longer than a 100 tire. You can find tires rated all the way up to 800, but that long tread wear life comes at a cost. They use harder rubber to get that long life. Hard rubber isn't as effective on ice and snow. So it's a trade off.

Again, read the ratings and reviews from customer on the tirerack website.

Bridgestone, Michelin, and Goodyear Triple Tread are three top rated tires.

You can expect to pay about $100 each for good tires. If you spend less than $70, you're not getting a good tire.

I would buy Four new ones because you will be able to get the best traction. It takes the tire place an average of 90-120 minutes to change the tires on a car. To know how much it will cost, you need to know if you are getting expensive or cheep tires. The cheap on will maybe only last you about 40000 miles while the expensive ones may get you to 90000 miles. In my opinion, I would go for the more expensive ones. cheap tires cost around $60 a tire while the expensive cost around $90. I bought Goodyear Eagle Response Edge tire for $120 a year ago and they have been great. Buy tires that are discontinued or are last years model because you can get them cheaper and they work just as well. Avoid Kelly tires all together because I have a friend that had a severe blow-out with one when it was 2-months old, he contacted Kelly Tires and sent them the tire, they said it was bad rubber.
Change all! Looks like it will be a cold wet winter, if not you still have the comfort of having new. You will want good tires, probably 75-125 each, 1-2hr at most, if you are good at a little bit of research do that then hit Sam's club, watch some of the tire stores they may hit you for other repairs while doing the tires.
How okay are the back tires? It is your call. You can either save money and risk it, or buy the tires, and have piece of mind. The more tread you have on your tires, the more control you will have on the road, but who knows if you even need the extra traction.

If you're not low on cash, then I suggest buying 4 new tires because 85,000 miles on 1 set of tires is crazy! haha, usually tires wear out around 40,000. You must be one safe driver. On the other hand, if you are on a budget, it is completely fine to just buy 2 tires.

The process takes 30 minutes if there's no wait.

You can expect to pay $50 up to $200 for each tire, plus mounting, tire disposal, valve stem and warrenty if there is any.
all four would be best. since your front tires give your your traction ans most of your braking and steering, these first if you have to make a choice. The back ones will help prevent spinouts if they were fresh. Get either good all-season tires if you don't drive a lot or long distances, if you have to rely on your car or drive a lot, then get tires that are M%26amp;S (mud and snow) or winter radials. (They don't make ';all-terrain'; tires for Avalons) Price shouldn't be more than $100 per tire (installed) expect it to take an hour to remove the old and install the new. Also, a good idea to get an allignment to protect your new tire investment. Some garages will offer a discount if you get the tires there too.
Generally, on tire changing, it takes between 15-25 minutes per tire, depending on the profile and rim design, thats also including balancing. Since you have never changed the tires on the vehicle, I would suggest changing all 4 tires as with age the rubber dries out and starts to crack and is more likly to blow out (although very rare on weather cracked tires). Going into winter its always good to have good tires on your car. Since you are probably inexperianced in driving in icy/snowy conditions I would recomend snow tires (they do not act like an all season or summer tire on dry road, but they will be a lot better then an all season or summer tire (summer tires in ice and snow is suicide)). For a good quality tire, I would be guessing starting at about $100 for a decent quality tire, plue installation, (at my shop about $20/tire). If your rim size is an odd or uncommon size, tire prices can go up to starting at $300+. I would expect to pay between $120-$180/tire with installation for a good quality brand name tire. Assuming its a relativly common size.

I have seen some tires starting at $60, in a brand name tire, but leading into the $200 - $300 range for the same tire in a different odd ball size.
Ohh baby, a winter novice! If you work around someone who could tell you the average winter snowfall right where your ';sittin'; There are plenty of choices. If you had some winter experiance you could get away with a pair of Yokohama TRZ - 205 - 65 -15's from tirerack.com for $79.00 ea. You enter your zipcode to them and they'll advise you of local installers. If you were my little girl (I have two your age) I'd want you on 4 snows all winter and kick-em off in the spring. They (tirerack and any Toyota dealer in your area) will tell you the same thing: Its pretty dangerous to drive around with a ton of front traction with tires on ther rear which can lead to an un-balanced grip condition. This may lead to a loose rear end or a spin out when you least expect it.

Tire change on 07 Sportster...?

How long would it take the Harley dealer to change front and rear tires on my sportster. I am just trying to figure out how much its gonna cost.Tire change on 07 Sportster...?
Like the first guy, I would also advise you to find a good independent shop that knows something about Harleys. The dealers do often charge too much and in my years of dealing with them they do not generally provide good service. I find independent shops care more about their customers and do a better job for people who become regular customers.Tire change on 07 Sportster...?
It would probably be cheaper for you if you took it to an independent shop to have them changed. Dealerships tend to be very expensive on tire changes. Not just HD dealerships but all of them.
Most dealerships will charge by the hour to take wheels on and off the bike. So for general figuring purposes figure 1 hour for each wheel to remove and reinstall. (30 minutes give or take to remove the front, then 30 to put it back on). Average shop cost in US is $70/per hour. So $140 for front and back wheel to remove and reinstall both (plus or minus some)

Then the cost of the actual tire change which is generally about $20-50. per tire (depending on just where you are, if you bought the tire at the dealer, and what the market will bear) for the mount and balance.
two hours...even though they'll probably say less. the front may be quicker and then you have to take into consideration whether there is a lot of chrome on your bike or not.
Front tire, about $140.

Rear tire about $160.

Plus 2 hours labor at shop rate.

Or thereabouts.

I go to an independent shop.

Like many others, he charges fixed rates for tire changes.

Those fixed rates include the mount and balance.

Tube and rim strip extra.

Rates for wheels on the bike are understandably higher than for off the bike.

I think they were $20F/$30R and $40F/50R.

The lower price on the front reflects the time difference.

Did anyone watch the SpeedVision World Challenge GT race at Atlanta last Friday(10-5-07)?

How do you feel about the way SCCA handled the red flag issues(allowing crews to change tires during the red flag, then putting the cars back into the order prior to the red flag, thereby penalizing those that came in early to change to rain tires prior to the red flag) and is there any way to reconcile the mess that SCCA created?Did anyone watch the SpeedVision World Challenge GT race at Atlanta last Friday(10-5-07)?
I only caught a few minutes of the races, and that wasn't one of them.

That sounds pretty bogus to me. In every sanctioning body I have dealt with, when the red flag is thrown, you stop. That means you also stop working on your car, and if you don't stop, you sure as heck don't get your place back.

did u replace the rims with rims from the dealer if u did. did u reuse the sensors from the old rims if u dint and out rugular valve stems that will be the problem.
The tire air pressure sensor called TCPM is not in or deffective.
Best thing you can do is go to a reputable tire shop and ask them to reset it for you.

The Tate's in my town uses a machine and hooks it up to the car and resets it that way.

    yes,
alright mate, im in the UK. yh you should get them changed because its 3 points on ur licence per defected tyre and a 拢60 fine per tyre, which sucks big time. depends how good your car is for the prices, get quotes from michellin or something like that, but a rough guess is about 80-120 quid per tyre if its a pretty good car.
If you promise never to drive faster than 40 mph in the USA, then I'd run them until the steel belts glistened in the sun. But you live in the UK where it rains all the time and you'll never be driving here, so for you I'd recommend going out and buying a set of Michelins. But, assuming an average car, like a Camry, and a cheap tire, you should be able to get it done for about $300, installed.

But, if you've got a Ferrari and want some nice rubber, about $15,000.

Godzilla, most expensive you can afford, really? So, you'd put a couple thousand dollars worth of rubber on a Camry?

Unless you're headed to a race track I think I've got better advice, get the cheapest tires you can find that are a brand name that you've heard of. Just about all brand name tires are ';good'; safe tires. Anything more expensive than an entry level tire starts paying for more grip. More grip is good but we're not talking about the difference between feeling like you're on an ice rink vs being able to stop on a dime. We're talking about the difference between a second or two around a race track and stopping a foot or two shorter from 70. Could that fraction of a second turning, or extra couple of feet avoid an accident in real life? I suppose the answer is a firm ';maybe'; but the real answer is that if you're within the range that tires are all that's making the difference between an accident and a close call, you've made a few mistakes that lead up to that critical moment.

Secondarily, those more expensive tires that get more grip use a softer rubber compound. That means the more expensive tires wear out faster than cheaper tires. I only mention this because so many people incorrectly think a more expensive tire lasts longer. How much will it cost to change all four tires of your car?
It depends on what size wheels you have.

how long is a piece of string? How much will it cost to change all four tires of your car?
approx $200 for cheap tires. don't forget, your life rides on them
Obviously, it depends on a lot of things. Figure on it starting around $40/tire for a set of new, low-brand tires (so, $160 plus mounting and all that) all the way up to $400 a tire for some cars and trucks.

I just got some put on a Honda that Honda recommends. They were probably $50 more a piece than the knockoff brand, but I also got about 15,000 miles LESS out of the cheapos, so it's worth it to spend a few extra bucks.
It depends. For a passenger car, four new tires will cost about $200. Retreads will be cheaper, trucks and RVs will be more.

Get the most expensive tires you can afford.
It's obvious that no one who has attempted to answer this question has any idea of what automobile tires really cost these days. Tire prices vary in price both due to differences in tire and wheel sizes, to the quality and type of tires you want to buy.

In the USA, individual tires for a tiny Chevy Aveo could be as cheap as $45 each, while tires for a high-performance car like a BMW or Porsche could cost over $250 each, and then you have to pay extra for mounting and balancing each tire on the car.
usually we allow for about 150australian per tyre. this gets a good tyre that is good for all weather. cheap tyres are just dangerous, and really expensive tyres grip very well but don't last very long due to the soft rubber.

tyres we have found that are very good and not hugely expensive are Toyo tyres. we got 60,000kms from our last set and 55,000kms from the set before that. they are nice and quiet on the highway and have a good deep tread for dealing with water.

decent tyres keep you on the road and keep you safe.

    How to maintain a car?

i just recently bought a new car and i was wondering what i need to do, as far as maintenance, to make this car last for as long as it can. other than regular oil changes every 3000 miles / 3 months, im talking about alignment, changing tires, replacing brake pads, changing windshield wipers, tune ups, etc. how long do i wait to do each of those things? as you can probably tell, im a noob when it comes to cars, so any help will be much appreciated. How to maintain a car?
    Hey Jiggly,

All that information depends on the make/model. Everything in your car manual will tell you when you should replace air filters, change oil, what oil to use..etc. Changing tires depends on the tire wear. When you get your oil changed they usually check your tires.

Actually, one of the most important things to do is wait about 30 - 45 seconds after you turn your car on to drive away. It gives your cars computer system time to check everything, and also for the oil to get up into the berings. 90 percent of the engines wear isn't from driving, it's from starting the car up.How to maintain a car?
Follow a well prepared maitenance schedule. Oil changes etc. Keep records and reciepts and it will add value when you go to sell or trade the car down the road. Your service manual will give you all the info you need.
Go by the owner's manual and the dealer scheduled maintenance, that's usually your best sources for proper vehicle maintenance.
dude, all i know is that if you really wanna take care of your car, it takes MONEY lol esp. if you get those beater cars or if you're hella sprung off of it and you wanna add a body kit, rims, big *** spoiler, etc...*siigh* exhausting :P
Just try to follow the maintenance schedule issued with the car.

My wheels squeek, not the brakes, I think it happens during all speeds, but very noticeable during low speeds?

I just bought this used car, never noticed any sounds from wheels during test drives, have had for 1 month now and notice squeeks in at least drivers side front wheel, can't return, past 1 month purchase, what could it be? went to carquest and guy didn't seem to know origin, said can't just change tires, could be bearings? what are they? how much$My wheels squeek, not the brakes, I think it happens during all speeds, but very noticeable during low speeds?
Sounds like the wheel bearings to me too. You need to get it fixed ASAP. It can make your wheel come off while driving, and cause a serious accident. My wheels squeek, not the brakes, I think it happens during all speeds, but very noticeable during low speeds?
If you hear the noise when turning the wheel it could be your ball joint has no grease in it.This would also sometimes make noise going over bumps too.Wheel bearings do not really squeak but rather make a dull kind of howl that gets worse the faster you go and changes pitch when you slowly turn your wheel from side to side when your up to speed.Be sure to get this looked at as soon as possible, front end problems can be dangerous.Good luck
i would say it is more than likely the wheel bearings and they are not cheep so if you don't know how to do it i would find some one that does because they are not way hard but you need to know what you are doing
Depends what year, make and model. IF its front wheel drive, I just bought a wheel bearing hub assembly for 64.00 at auto-zone...but mine required 2.6 hours labor to install so, . But they were nice enough to install my part that i bought. I got by with part and labor about 230.00 for a wheel bearing job. This was at a chain store brake shop..Some wheel b. jobs are much more labor friendly and take about an hour on some axles. Yeah, its actually 2 bearings in my kit, inner and outer and the new hub
sounds like you need new front wheel bearings, replace both sides, they are pretty costly, the ones for my grand am were $90 each.
yep that sounds like the bearings. The bearings are big steel ball bearings that the wheels spin on. When one cracks it will often drag against the hub causing that whining/squeeling/squeaking noise u can hear. It could also possibly be from the suspension but thats less likely.
It sounds like your wheel bearings may be going bad. A mechanic could tell ya for sure.
are you sure its not a squeaky fan belt?

Do you feel it is essential to change the tire loading size for the added extra weight of a system?

how bout shocks and springs,,,opinions plz

and of course facts,,,Do you feel it is essential to change the tire loading size for the added extra weight of a system?
Just how much does this system weigh? Are we talking about a normal system with a bigger alternator, a second battery, 6-8 speakers and two subwoofers, a capacitor and four amps? Because all up that's only going to weigh 200 pounds or so, which isn't enough weight to require suspension upgrades.

However, if you're going to be fitting a huge show system to a vehicle, something like a full custom fibreglass interior, 24-32 speakers, 8-16 subwoofers, 16 amplifiers, 8-16 capacitors, 8 batteries, twin truck alternators, many miles of heavy guage wiring etc. etc. etc., then it could all add up to over a tonne - in which case if you want to be driving this vehicle on the road, not only should the suspension be heavily modified, the chassis should be strengthened, the brakes should be massively upgraded, stronger wheels with much higher load rating tyres should be fitted, the power steering pump and rack may need to be strengthened/modified, the list goes on and on!

I am thinking about changing tire size on my 2007 F-150 2wd. Has anyone done this?

My truck currently has P235-70-17's on it, and I want to step up the size a little to LT255-70-17's. I believe this is the stock tire size on the 4x4's. Has anyone changed out their smaller tires to a larger size? From my conversion chart I think it will be about 1 inch taller than the old ones. How much will this affect my speedo? I don't want to have to flash the computer just to change tire height, but I would like something to fill up the wheel well a little more. I am also going to get something with a fairly aggressive tread pattern because the OEM tires suck badly. 15000 miles and they are very worn. I don't drive the truck hard either. Main question is do you think it will mess up the speedometer and odometer too badly, and if so can I go to a 255-65-17 that will be roughly the same height, and be ok?I am thinking about changing tire size on my 2007 F-150 2wd. Has anyone done this?
The link is a conversion calculator which will tell you the effect of the change on the speedometer and odometer. Going up to 255 will change things less than 5% which is nothing to be concerned about. In fact most stock speedometers are calibrated about 5% too fast. It's very likely the change will make things more accurate. Run a measured mile on the interstate or better yet 10 miles using the mileposts and see how accurate your speedometer and odometer are now.

HoW to Increase Gas Milleage on Ford Explorer 1999?

I HAVE A FORD EXPLORER, THE TORNADO DIDN'T WORK..I'M THINKING ABOUT PERFORMANCE CHIP. I DON'T MIND PUMPING PREM. I WILL GET TUNE UP, JUST GOT MY OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION AND AIR CHECK.HoW to Increase Gas Milleage on Ford Explorer 1999?
Make sure it is not in 4 WD!!!

Yep, I knew someone who cussed their's for months due to poor gas mileage, and then learned they had it in 4 WD all the time!HoW to Increase Gas Milleage on Ford Explorer 1999?
use syn oil and K%26amp;N air filter will help, but the biggest thing is driving style, anticipate stop signs and on hills don't use the cruise control,
dont get the chip it will increase power but it wont help milage. get the iridium hybrid platnum botch plus 4 spark plugs you will notice a difference. get different coil packs . ones from msd or jacobs. also a msd ignition or jacobs ignition will increase power and fuel conso. a stock ignition only burns about 50% of the fuel in the combustion chamber and the rest comes out in exaust. when you up grade it burns 99.9% of the fuel in the chamber so it gives you more power and you dont have to get your foot in her tail to get a result . shes more responsive.

a k+n air filter will help. synthetic oils for your engine and tranny and differental. any time you reduce friction you increase power and milage. if you cant get the msd ignitions get the plugs ,oils and air filter . you will be pleased.
Actually using the cruise control helps milage. Odd that you want to increase milage, but don't mind using premium ($$$) A performance chip won't increase milage. Just make sure it's tuned up and the tires have about 35 psi in them. Go easy on the gas pedal starting.
You don't give the engine size, but you'll be lucky to get 21 mpg on the highway with the 4.0L and 17 mpg with the 5.0L. A performance chip might actually decrease the mileage because the ones I know about typically cause the engine to rev higher before the trans shifts into a higher gear, which is not exactly great for mpg.
well for starters stick to Ford parts. The tornado lets think about this. it goes in between you air filter and throttle housing making the air swirl to help maximize the air intake. Little did the makers of the tornado forget to tell you about throttle plates, they undo what the tornado just did. So if you want to spend money just send it to me i can use it. As for putting in high premium gas or 10% ethanol. your pissing money away in the wind. Fords are set up to run on 87 octane. and the ethanol in the gas decreases gas mileage. as i tell my customers dont use the 10% during the summer and use it once every 4th tank in the winter to get the moisture out. As to increase mileage, dont mash the gas pedal to the floor and dont slam on the breaks when you reach the stop sign. Take it easy, use the cruise, and tap the brakes to disable the cruise when your reaching your turn and let the forward momentum carry you instead of losing that wasted energy at the brakes. Proper maintenance will go along ways to. And a chip is not the way to go on a gas engine.

Cycling Turbo Trainer - when to change the tyre, I use the same bike in and out?

I use my bike on the turbo trainer after a commute home when its too cold/late/dark to do anything else or when I havent got enough time to go out, I cant afford a spare wheel ATM, so how can I tell when I should change the tyre so I dont risk going out for a bike ride with a tyre that is all been rubbed away on the trainer.Cycling Turbo Trainer - when to change the tyre, I use the same bike in and out?
Depending on your tire your may or may not have wear indicators. Keep an eye on severe wear by continually monitoring tire wear and pay close attention to wear in the center of your tire as it will likely show up as a wide flat area. Keep a close eye out for tire blistering also, hard use on a trainer can cause the rubber and cord to separate. The final thing is when cord shows toss the tire out and get a new one.Cycling Turbo Trainer - when to change the tyre, I use the same bike in and out?
Trainers don't wear a tire that much unless you have knobbies or other aggressive tread. I use a pair of slicks on my trainer and rail trails, works great on both. They go through mud and dirt pretty good but I am not sure about snow and ice. I have 3,000 miles on this tire and no sign of wear at all. The center is smooth and shiny but the tread isn't worn down.

    http://www.amazon.com/Kenda-Kross-Front-鈥?/a>
By the tread depth or by wear indicators on a slick. I find in my own experience that the road wears my tires more than my trainer does anyway.

Solve the puzzle for best answer?

I want to travel 1,000 miles on an adult tricycle and I have two spare tyres. However, I want to use all five tyres equally and have an equal mileage on each of the five tyres by the end of the trip. Of course I can only use three tyres at a time, so I will have to change tyres during the trip. At the end of the trip how many miles will each tyre have been used?

it's not that hard if you think about it.Solve the puzzle for best answer?
600 miles: a total of 1,000 miles have been travelled and at any one time, three tyres are travelling. Therefore 3,000 tyre miles have been travelled, which is shared equally by the 5 tyres.Solve the puzzle for best answer?
    IDK 5,000
ummmmmmm......... 200 miles on each tyre.
    TOO HARD!!!!!!!!!!
    600 miles.

3,000 total miles divided by 5 tires equals 600 miles per tire.

If you really want to make the question hard,

how do you go about doing this?

Answer: Change one tire every 200 miles.
600 miles a total of 1,000 miles have been travelled and at any one time, three tyres are travelling. Therefore 3,000 tyre miles have been travelled, which is shared equally by the 5 tyres.
600 miles each but gee have a headache after that
each tyre would have dome 600 miles
    200 miles

  • How to Change a tire in an automotive hobby shop.?

you place the tire on the mount dismount machine. there is a cone shaped pic that spins down on the machin to hold the rim down tight. Remove the valve stem valve (the little piece of metal in the middle of the valve stem) with a valve stem valve remover. when there is no air in the tire thin lift the de-beadier bar (located on the frond right) align it so it fits next to the rim. Press the foot petal and the breaker bar will lower de-beading the tire from the rim. release the petal, swing the arm out of the way. Now there is a wrench looking thing double ended and has a slit in the middle. Place the curved end in the de-beaded area and push the other end up and over the center of the wheel the slot in the tool go over the metal rod in the middle of the rim. pressing the pedal the bar will rotate sliding the tire off around the rim. once the outer part of the tire is off then do the same for the inner keeping the rim in place. now you have a bear rim.

soap the bead of the new tire and the rim itself. on the left side press the tire on the rim then use the tire iron again but the other end of it this time. Place it against the rim and press the peddle and it will swing around and and mount the bottom half of the tire then you repeat to get the top on. Now it should me mounted.

loosen the cone pice from the rim a little bit (not off) connect the air line to the valve stem and press the peddle to fill the tire you have to hold the tire in the middle of the rim. sometimes getting the tire to bead is the hardest part. once it beads watch the pressure you put in the tire. Add about 3 pounds extra and get the valve ready to be put back in the valve stem. When you remove the air line, air will come out until you get the valve in. after the valve is in then adjust the pressure of the tire.

BE CAREFUL IF CAN BE DANGEROUS USING THIS MACHINE IF SOMEONE IS THERE TO ASSIST YOU BY JUST WATCHING YOU AND GIVING YOU ADVICE THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO.

I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?

    nissan altima year 2000

the owner didnt tell me what he did.

i changed the oil, put in new coolant, installed new tires, changed the rotors, and front brakes. then i added some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank

the car has like 183,000 km on it

    anything else i should change?

i havent checked the rear brakes because i dont know how to put on rear brakesI just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?
Timing belt even if it ';looks'; to be in great shape. Change it. Check out the car jack by actually lifting the car and use the wheel wrench to take off the nuts. Sometimes they lose these things and just toss in any old jack which does not necessarily fit or work(which does not help you when you actually need it to fix a flat tire) on the side of the road in the rain one night out in the middle of nowhere and you are half drunk and the girl is wanting it in the cab but you are no longer in the mood because ';things are not going your way outside';.

All the filters. Check your vacuum lines and V belts and rad hoses. and your smelly pine tree air fumigator on the rearview mirror.

Oh, and check to see that the spare tire is actually one that fits onto the car. Nothing like finding you have a 4 bolt hole pattern to fit a Ford and you have a 4 bolt Chev.

Rear brakes are getting to the time they need to be inspected and possibly replaced as they would possibly be pretty thin by now. Do it before metal to metal contact which would ruin the drums. Grab a repair manual from the library to find out how to do them. It is not that hard.

Also have the battery condition inspected(a load test) and the charging system checked.

You might want to eye-ball the exhaust system especially around the muffler where most of the rust occurs to see if it is rusted through.

Also, eyeball the shocks to see if oil is leaking from them. Also you should have looked at the old tires and see how evenly they were wearing. If worn out on the insides or the outsides indicates a wheel alignment is needed as the car does not travel straight down the road. Wearing out in the centre means he had too much air in the tires.

Oh yeah. Do the windshield wipers work(and the washer)? Headlights, high beam %26amp; low beam, brake lights, backup lights, signal lights, horn?

A radio would be nice too.I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?
There is no set instructions on what you should do,but I would change spark plugs, wires, dist. cap(if have one),oil filter, air filter, flush radiator, check and change belts if you notice cracking in them, and maybe timing belt if the mileage is high. This will take care of most stuff that may cause problems. This also makes all items done when you know they were done.
check the back brakes. if you don,t know how to put them on then just pull both wheel. if you get in a bind then you can look at the other wheel. check to see if it has grease fittings on the ball joints and tie rods. you might want to grease them. change the air filter, pcv valve, check the belts and all the hoses including the vacuum hoses.
Sounds like you are on the right track.

Your engine uses a timing chain instead of a belt but verify this with a Nissan parts dept.

Read the owner's manual font to back and make note of maintenance intervals.

Check the condition and tension of the drive belts.

Air filter? Perhaps check one or two spark plugs? If the look a bit worn it's inexpensive to change them.
    break fluids?

you might also wanna check there hasn't been saw dust pored in the engine! ;)

nah only joking with the saw dust, good luck with it all.

Sure you have already but if you havnt make sure to check the spare tire!
    spark plugs/wires

    air filter

fuel filter-doubt that has ever been changed

timing belt/water pump dont usually have to replace till around 100-120k

    rotate tires

check all the fluids, make sure antifreeze still protects
Pl check timming beltand timming bearing.Do some brake service and polish the brakes with emery paper.

    Change air filter too.

    good luck
    Timing belt - CRITICAL
    tuneup, battery
    Transmission..

and check the spark plugs as well..

How many ';brownie points'; do you think i scored today?

Today i was driving on the highway and i saw a car on the shoulder with the lights blinking. The car looked familiar so i stopped and wanted to see who it was. Here it was some girls in my grade driving to the state fair and they had blown a tire. I knew how to change tires so i did it for them. I know they appreciated it and how much would have you apprecitated it. ALso do you think that they will respect me more and think differently of me from now on?How many ';brownie points'; do you think i scored today?
100 points for you, and yes you will be looked on in a different light. How many ';brownie points'; do you think i scored today?
    Thata Girl.
Don't worry about them! Worry about how you feel about yourself. You did the right thing, to stop and help someone stranded on the side of the road.

Let the school-politics handle themselves. No use worrying about them!!! : )
Sure, they'll think you're swell. Just don't let your head swell!!!! You should do good things all the time and not wonder their effect too much. It's not the brownie points you should be after.
tons. now every girl in your school is going to want you to change their tires (if you know what I mean) but seriously they are probably going to look at you slightly different but not a lot. the probably will talk about it for like a day and then forget. hope this gets you some good pu$$y.

Changed the tires on my car? how much of a difference will it make on my speedometer?

    stock, they were R18 225. i changed them to R18 245.

If my speedometer says 60, how fast do u think im going w the new tires?Changed the tires on my car? how much of a difference will it make on my speedometer?
You need to provide the profile size.

    Use the calculator at:

http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalcula鈥?/a>Changed the tires on my car? how much of a difference will it make on my speedometer?
You forgot something! The middle number will tell us the answer. Is it 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 or 70? Even an old woman like me knows there is a middle number.
i need to know the sidewall off the tire. your tire will say stock 225/?/18 and new will be 245/?/18.
I'd say 60 is still just about 60. The change from 225 to 245 is a change in tire width, not diameter. Speedo readings won't be affected.
easist way to be sure, is just try it out.

Either go through a measured mile, have someone pace you, or get a gps/nav-they all usually have speedometer function that is pretty accurate (especially at higher speeds)
it might not or it might i went from r15 265 to a r16 44x19.50 and it was only 5 mph off so it just depends take it some engine electronics place and have them set it correctly

    G35 Maintanance Fees!!!?

I really really want to get an Infinity G35, and I'm planning o going shopping for one this weekend. I've looked up the pros and cons of driving one already, but I need to know about how much is spent on maintanance fees on a yearly basis (oil change, tires, etc). I also need to know if things like an oil change are simple enough that a general mechanic can do or if they will need special tools. Thanks a bunchG35 Maintanance Fees!!!?
    I own a G35 and I absolutely LOVE ITG35 Maintanance Fees!!!?
over all good cars - no bad reps as of yet alot of people have them and no issues that i know of.

oil service i think may be coverd by dealer for 1 or 2 years if im not wrong. uhmm maintance is you stay on top of any maintainance you will pay less over all then if you dont get them done on time. oil service can be done at a local repair facility - just make sure they know how to reset the service lights when they are done.

tires - well its a performance vehicle - might have what is known as V or W rated tires those do not last long - 30k tops also depending on what driving conditions you are in and area if roads are bad. good roations and alignments will make tires last longer on any type of tire.

never put a lesser quality tire on then manufacturer recommands.

Get a sliver one and later change the rims to black - they look awsome - once they are lowerd 2 inces and have larger rims.

    http://images.google.com/images?q=g35%26amp;hl鈥?/a>

check the link above hope it helps :!

    good luck
You should be covered for 4yrs or 35Kmls on any repair and if you get an oil change to not void warranty you have to keep track of your main records and use stock parts.

Got my tires changed today, but still need to get them aligned.?

Is it unsafe to drive my car for 300 miles before I get them aligned next week? How much wear would 300 miles cause on my tires?Got my tires changed today, but still need to get them aligned.?
How were tires ';worn '; before? If just plain worn out after a good long period of use (miles). If they just wore out ';normally'; then you might not even need alignment! Changing tires does not change alignment..

Yes it is good to have it checked, and yes if is really out of alignment, it will wear tires out prematurely!

So question would be answered by just how badly tires were worn -- from normal wear pattern. If one or more tires was worn out on one side, but not the other then that wheel is out of alignment,-- note that one may be fine --but not the other! There are also other things in suspension that can cause tire wear, -- so you could end up with more than just alignment when you go in!

In essence it may not wear appreciably -- or not at all depending on how close alignment is!Got my tires changed today, but still need to get them aligned.?
Minimal. 300 is fine unless your car pulls hard to one side.
Yes this is a good thing to do. You just spent good money on your tires and you should do the front end to make sure it is true. If it is not true your new tires will only handle like new for a short time.
A bad alignment can do serious damage in a short time. 60 bucks compared to a couple hundred to replace damaged tires early.
next time go to a place where aligning is part of the deal when buying tyres
did your old wear uneven ? 300 miles wont wear alot on your tires

but get an alignment as quick as you can to save wear on your tires

alignment %26amp; rotate %26amp; air pressure will make your tires last longer

    alignment tec 10 years
if your last set of tires wore out evenly then you don't need an alignment... if you do get it done as soon as you can...every time you buy tires they will try to sell you an alignment it is not always necessary

    Help with new car maintenance?

I am a new driver and my parents bought me a nissan titan in mid april with about 11,000 miles starting out.

I honestly have no idea about how to take care of this car. I'm a girl, and so most of my guy friends usually have to tell me how to maintain my truck. I don't even know what all needs to be done and when. I want to keep it looking well maintained and shiny. how often should I get a carwash, oil change, tire rotation etc?

--Thank you!Help with new car maintenance?
READ THE OWNERS MANUALHelp with new car maintenance?
Please note, the BEST answer is: read the owners manual. If you don't have the owners manual, go to a dealership and BUY ONE for your car. The below information is more or less 'general' car maintenance schedules.

    ';how often should I get a carwash';

When it's dirty. The car should be WAXED every 2 months, at the very least. The best indicator of when a car should be waxed is when water runs off it in streams, instead of gathering in beads on the hood.

    ';oil change';

Well, I change my oil ever 3-5k miles. I wouldn't go any more than that. The typical mantra of car guys is ';3k miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.'; But I do admit that's a LITTLE more than I think is necessary. WHATEVER you do, be CONSISTENT. If you change the oil every 3k miles, ALWAYS change it at 3k miles.

    ';tire rotation';

Check your manual. It'll tell you what the rotation pattern is and when it should be done. Personally, I rotate my tires every time I do an oil change.
The owner's manual probably has a chart showing at what mileage to do routine maintenance at - meaning oil changes, belt replacement, tire rotation. (it's probably in your glove box)

If you don't have that, you can buy one off Amazon or Ebay.

Be as nice as you can to that truck. You're young so you're probably pretty broke, and regular maintenance can suffer.

You absolutely have to make sure it's never low on oil - and make sure you always get the oil changed on time. The old stand-by answer for how often to get your oil changed is every 3000 miles. Many newer cars are made to go 5000 miles between oil changes. If you don't have the manual that tells you, go with 3000 miles.

Truly, if you have to choose one thing to never let slide, it's engine oil.

You can replace brakes, belts and tires whenever they come up as needing it. You'll notice your truck doesn't stop well when you need brakes. The engine will chirp loudly when you need a new serpentine belt. And the tread on your tires will start slipping in the slightest of puddles when they're bald.

But there's no way to avoid extremely expensive engine repairs if you don't take care of the oil.
All that information should be in your owners manual. If you don't have 1 call your local dealer and ask how to get 1. Depending on where you live rust is always a problem. If you wanna really take care than think of undercoating it to prevent rust. I am a retired auto-mechanic and let me tell you 90% of the cars out there need front-end alignments right now. Everytime you hit a bump, pothole, curb or whatever you bend front-end parts. That is normal, don't worry. An alignment is actually adjusting the front-end to make up for slightly bend parts. Tire rotation saves on the life of your tires as well as balancing. Usually all these things can be done either 1 or 2 times a year depending on how much you drive. 0-5,000 miles a year than 1 time, 5,000-10,000 miles ayear than twice. An oil change and new filter, alignment, tire rotation and tire balance in the spring or fall and/or spring and fall depending on mileage.

Most shops always do extra checking for free, that is how they make sells. They will check your brakes while the wheels are off for the rotation and balance. They will check for loose or worn front-end parts when they do an alignment. They will look underneath when it is on the lift for rusted exhaust or holes and/or broken hangers. Grab yourself a milk crate or something like that and put it in your trunk. You might wanna keep a few quarts of oil in that, some coolant, maybe some power-steering fluid and brake fluid, washer fluid and some rags and hand cleaner. You might have someone show you how to use those car wash stations and here hoses and how to clean your engine and keep it clean. As long as you don't spray directly into the carberator and dont get the distributor wet you should be fine. Don't forget to reach under the car, too and clean that with the pressure cleaning wand. You might wanna keep some windex and paper towels to clean the windows once in a while. If you know how to use tools, a small tool box with tools is nice to have, maybe some road flares and make sure you have a good spare tire and a jack. Do a radiator flush and fill when the fluid in the over-flow looses its bright green color. Get use to popping your hood at least once a month if not to just look around. Look for bulging radiator hoses ready to burst, look for leaks, don't forget to look unedrneath on the ground, too. Look at your belts for cracking and while egine is off, grab each belt and check the tension. Should be very little, say 1/2 inch of play for every 1 foot of length. Turn on your lights and walk around the car making sure they all work, blinkers, too. Reverse should light without the engine started. Just turn the key and put in reverse with the parking brake on. Remember, if you start hearing noises or smelling something and see warning light on the dash then something is in need of concern. Never ever think you can drive with a temperature or oil light on for more than 10 seconds. Get a good insurance company that offers towing just in case. Now, 1 thing I might add is a new car has break-in oil so it doesn't need to be changed the first time untill your owners manual says. Always use the correct oil type and gas octane. If your engine pings and knocks with the cheap gas, try the midgrade of even the high-test 92 octane. Find out where your fuse box is and learn how to check them. Keep a few handy in your glove box along with your owners manual and registration. I always but a book when I get a new car. Whether it be the chilton books for $10 or so or the books from Helm that covers everything for $100, I would at least get a book for learning repairs. Just in case your stuck out there in the middle of nowhere and all you needed was a 10 cent fuse. With a book at least you would know what to look for and fix it. Good Luck!

I just popped two of my tires what should I do now?

My friend was driving my lincoln town car too fast and the street was wet and we hydroplaned and hit a curb and both of my tires popped we parked my car but we cant drive it to a tire store or anything. I know how to change a tire and take them off. But what should i do now? i have one spare tire.I just popped two of my tires what should I do now?
Jack up one side take the tire off. Put a block under the axle or a arm. and then remove the other tire. Take them to a tire shop. If you don't know how to block up one side take one tire at a time to the tire shop. Other wise you will have to have it towed to the tire shop. they may be able to fill the tires if they weren't damaged. If they are damaged plan on spending at least a hundred dollars for new tires. They should be alright. And remember Speed Kills.I just popped two of my tires what should I do now?
    Call a tow truck!
You will need to buy new tires. I love AAA for stuff like that. They will tow you to the shop where you can buy what you need, be it tires or tires and wheels..
Put the spare on the front and drive it very slow to where you can get another spare or beg borrow or steal another spare,,ok thats a last resort if You dont have AAA
Jack the car up, support it on jack-stands, take both wheels to a tire shop for new tires. (Don't forget to 'break' the lug-nuts BEFORE you jack it up) If you don't have jack-stands, a cinder block laid on it's side will work
If you dont have AAA and you dont want to spend money on a tow truck, Take one tire off and put on the spare. Have someone take you to a tire shop and get a new or a used one. Go home and put in where the other one is flat and then drive it back to the tire to fix the other one. Depending on where you go, new tires are about $80 and if they have used, no more then $40 installed.
Experienced thesame thing, try to call or contact a tire manufacturer of tire makers, some of them has this express line wherein you can request for tires and let them deliver to where your location is.. like deliveries. this was what i did.

How much will a bike shop charge to change a tire with a new one on my bicycle?

Inner tube about 4-6 dollars depending on the valve type (schrader vs. presta), labor about 6-8 dollars, price of tire, if you need one, can range from 8-50 dollars depending on the quality you want.

EDIT: any shop that would charge you $20. labor to change a tire is a shop you should NEVER go to.How much will a bike shop charge to change a tire with a new one on my bicycle?
honestly, you should be able to change your own tires. what if you had a flat while out riding? this is a very basic skill that anyone riding any distance needs to master. you need to be able to repair a flat, and if you can change a tube a tire isnt much more.

i have always changed my own. i really have no idea how much a shop would charge, but that mechanic has to earn a living so i would think at least 20 for his trouble, perhaps more. How much will a bike shop charge to change a tire with a new one on my bicycle?
Too much...Maybe $20...You should be able to do it yourself in 15 20 minutes...You can get tire levers for about $3 in a department store.
Come on man, your killin me. I do all the work on my bike and it is extremely simple. Even if you live in an apartment. Just buy a new tire and a new intertube. Take the old tire and intertube off, and pu tthe new on the same way.
    call one
all depends what kind of tires you buy..... tubeless or some special ones like the flat proof Specialized Armadillo Elite is 60.00 dollars....

    also bike shops charge different.....
$20 bucks is a rip off...
Find an experienced cyclist (they often hang in bike shops). He'll be glad to show you how to change a tire and tube for free. It's not hard. All you need is a $3 set of tire levers and access to a pump. Then you'll be able to change your own tires for the rest of your life.

Setting a price is the most difficult thing in starting a small business, however there are resources available to you!

Check with the small business administration in your area. Normally they offer classes you can take that will help you get started, get focused on what to do, how much to charge for it, and how to keep track of all the evil tax things you'll be going through.

A great way to find a median price is to look at your target market - how much can they afford and how much are they willing to pay for your services? If there are competitors in your area, look at their prices for a good guideline, try to undercut them if you can do so without hurting the quality of your work.

Get a quote for such services from every known business in your area and then compare their rates.

You should be undermining their charge by 10% first to get enough customers willing to give you a try. A couples years later you can adjust your rates because you are well known to do a really good job.
Look at the local businesses and undercut them. Don't charge hourly labor, it'll sound good on a flyer.
    $20 for an oil change

    $10 for tire rotation

Those seem to be the competitive rates. As far as the rest of the stuff, I would charge $15 an hour per person on the job.

If you get into doing a lot of tune up stuff on cars where you are buying a lot of supplies, check with your local auto parts store (NAPA, Advanced Auto, etc.) and see if you can get a lower price because you are getting so much stuff. My dad is a mechanic and I think he always gets his stuff 15-20% less than the average customer.

How do you change a tire???

Hi! My name is Katie and I want to know how to change a tire. I keep asking my daddy to show me...but he still hasn't. I'm 16...almost 17 and I think this is something that every girl--actually every driver should know how to do.

Please give me a step-by-step on how to do it the right way. My car is a Ford Explorer, if that makes a diffrence.......

Thanks! ~Katie!~How do you change a tire???
Find your owners manual, it will tell you where to jack it up at.

Step 1. Find the flat tire... lol j/k

Step 2. take out jack, crowbar and spare tire.

Step 3. Loosen the bolts, but don't take them off yet. its easier to loosen them with the weight of the car on the tire.

Step 4. Jack up car. You need to jack it enough so that the spare tire will fit. remember the flat tire is going to be closer to the ground, so you will need to compensate.

Step 5. Take all the bolts off, remove tire.

step 6. Put new/spare tire on and put a bolt on right away to hold it in place.

I usually hand tighten the bolts, then (Don't jack it all the way down) jack it down just enough to have the weight of the car to hold the tire so it doesn't move.

Step. 7 Tighten bolts with crowbar then jack it down the rest of the way.How do you change a tire???

Take the car to the auto shop at your high school and ask them to show you. Jacking up a car is really easy but also very dangerous if done wrong. There should also be instructions in your manual.
first be on level ground....then(if your dad wont take the presious time to show you how to the how about this CALL HIM WHEN YOU HAVE A FLAT AND LET HIM FIX IT...irresponcible parents gets me everytime....im sorry but a responcible dad should at least show you how to fix it,,,take the time to fix it himself.....drive it home on a flat and tell him oh ,,,,,i didnt know it was flat cause i dont know anything about a flat tire........
You need to be very careful. First you need a jack to raise one end of the car, the side with the tire that needs to be changed. Then you need a tool, may be called a ratchet, to remove the nuts from the tire. Then the tire will be lose and you can remove it. Place new tire on, replace the nuts and lower the jack. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO TEACH YOU IN PERSON, HANDS ON FOR YOUR SAFETY. YOU NEED TO SEE HOW IT'S DONE. I WOULD NOT WANT THE CAR FALLING ON YOU.

Maybe your dad won't show you how because he's afraid that you'll get hurt.
I have a 98 Explorer.... nice SUV's. OK..... open the back hatch and take out the jack and lug wrench which is in the rear left cargo compartment in the rear of the explorer.

You will have to turn the scissor jack until it reached the bottom of the explorer body, look for the lift point near the fron of the rear wheel, or rear side of the front wheel.

Turn the jack and raise the explorer up but not till the wheel come off the gound

Now loosen the lug nuts with the wrench, they will be pretty tight, you might have to use your foot to beak the nuts loose.

Now raise the explorer up till the wheel is off the ground.

Take the nuts off and pull the wheel off.

To put the new wheel on just put it on, tighten the nuts, lower the SUV until the wheel hits the ground, tighten the nuts real tight, lower the explorer to the ground and it is done.

Open the trunk. Get out the jack and the whatever- it- is that you use to loosen the lug nuts. Make sure that you have a spare and that it's not flat too.

Before jacking up the car, remove the hubcap and loosen the lug nuts a little. Following the directions on the jack, place it under the recommended area of the car, and after making sure your car is in park or a gear that won't let it roll away, jack up the car until the flat tire is off the ground. Loosen and remove the lug nuts. Take off the tire, put on the spare, put the lug nuts on and tighten them. Lower the jack to let the car back down. Once it's back on the ground, tighten the lugs firmly. Replace the hubcap, put the flat tire, jack etc. back in the trunk.

Chances are, you'll never make it past the first step, because by then, a man will have stopped to help you. Accept his help graciously. Men, bless them, are better suited to this type of thing than we are, and they don't worry about breaking a nail.
Katie, my grand daughter's name also.

Changing a tire is really easy once you know how to do it. The problem is, every vehicle is a little different. The jack has to be placed in the right spot, or it is dangerous to raise it.

Loosen the lug nuts before you lift the vehicle, raise the vehicle, remove the lug nuts that hold the tire on, remove the flat, replace with the spare, and reverse the process.

    If you can't convince your dad to help you with this, find a boy from auto shop class, flutter your eyelids at him, and in your sweetest voice, ask him, ';Can you show me how to change a tire? You are so strong and smart!';

Trust me, he will fall all over himself to help you. It is best to actually see how it is done, and then you should be able to do it yourself.
    1. Remove all the lugs from the tire with a lug wrench, while the full weight of the car is on the flat one.

    2. Jack up the car high enough to pull the tire off.

    3. Pull it off.

    4. Put the spare tire on.

    5. Lower the car with the jack, just enough to keep the tire from spinning, but no lower.

    6. Put the lugs, from step 1, onto the spare.

(Don't tighten them one at a time!) Tighten each, a little at a time, until they are all reasonably tight. (Too tight for fingers, not too tight for moderate pull on lug wrench.)

    7. Take the flat tire to a tire store, ask them to fix and replace it. It shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks, else it's a rip off.

    (Better yet, call AAA!)

The basic principle is the same on all vehicles. Look in your owner's manual for anything different, and make sure you know where your jack is, and how to use it, before you get a flat!
This is a really good question to ask because your right all drivers should know how to change a tire there should be instructions with the jack that came with the car.

Here is how to do it

    1. Locate the vehicles jack and lug wrench

    2. Make sure the car is parked on a level hard surface

    3. Set parking brake

    4. Loosen lug nuts (do not remove the nuts yet just loosen)

    5. locate vehicle lift point

    6. Line jack up with lift point being sure jack is on sturdy level ground

    7. jack up vehicle enough to raise tire off the ground

    8. Remove pre loosened lug nuts and tire from the wheel hub

    9. Place spare tire on the hub

    10. Make sure tire is on the hub square

    11. Snug Lug nut in a criss cross or star pattern so the wheel is pulled onto the hub evenly This is very Important

    12. Lower car back to the ground

13 Tighten Lug Nuts in a criss crossing pattern as tight as you can get it you may even want to stand on the lug wrench

    14. check that all lugs are tight

That's all that's to it but remember to use that criss cross pattern when tightening the lug nut and that you only want to loosen and tighten the nuts when the car is on the ground so not to knock the car off the jack wile you are working on it.

You should have your dad show you first before you try this just so you can see it done.

How to change a tire on a 2007 Nissan Frontier?

Set the ebrake, jack up the corner, take off the lug nuts, let the air out, unscrew the tire pressure monitor nut and let the sensor drop into the tire, then you can mount and balance a new tire. You have to put the sensor back in the same corner or it will confuse the system. How to change a tire on a 2007 Nissan Frontier?

1994 Mazda B3000What is the strange 5th lug on a 1994 Mazda B3000? How do you remove it when needing to change a tire?
It sounds like a lock. If you do not have the key, try contacting the dealer to see if they can provide you with one. Otherwise, take it to your local tire shop and they can usually take it off. =]What is the strange 5th lug on a 1994 Mazda B3000? How do you remove it when needing to change a tire?
i wonder if it's the same thing i had on my car?. it would be a ';lock-nut';. you have to have a special 'key' for it that the dealer should have given you, if not they can order one for you, or if your car was used, they'll order you a new 'set'. did you check the glovebox? the key is an extra safety precaution so no one can steal your tires/wheels.
sounds like a wheel lock most of the time its in the trunk with the jack and stuff..... will look like a small socket.. when you do get it off throw them away and get yourself a new nut will save you a tow one day..... more people steal cars than wheels and really if they want to steal them they will have the locks to do it i have a set of them im a tire guy easy to find them... sorry but i think they are a problem waiting to happen... go to a tire shop or the dealer they can help you out
If you do not have the ';key'; socket for the wheel lock, remove it with a pipe wrench, then replace it with a regular lug nut. Wheel thieves have the keys, anyway.
its a lock nut and a gator grip socket can remove it it suppose to have special socket that fits but since you dont have it get a gtor grip it will prevent you from having to break it off

What is the name of the thing used to crank a car up when you need to change a tire or fix something?

Do you also know how much they cost??What is the name of the thing used to crank a car up when you need to change a tire or fix something?
Car JackWhat is the name of the thing used to crank a car up when you need to change a tire or fix something?
    It's called a car jack.
a car jack, anywhere from $60 - $2000 depends how fancy you want it.
    The common American-English term for it is ';jack.'; And the lever used is called a ';jack handle.'; The kind that expands as it raises the car is called a ';scissors jack.';

One should be included with every new car. However, they can be purchased at auto parts stores, and should cost around $35. A word to the wise: If you need to buy a jack, don't just get the cheapest one you can find -- if you're out on the side of the road fixing a flat, the last thing you want is for your car to come crashing down. On you, or anything else!
    floor jack, and jack stands.

a hydraulic floor jack with caster wheels and aluminum handle will be roughly 100-150 dollars. Don't pay any more than 150 bucks. Jack stands (which is what you lower the car onto once it is lifted up on the floor jack) are about 15 bucks each. You will need two in order to safely work on one side of the car at a time. (Jack up one corner, lower onto jack stand. Then repeat on opposite side) front, rear, or one side can be raised with two jack stands. If you want the whole car suspended, you will need four jack stands.
aaaaaaah jack and jack handle//depends on car type and model
It`s called a jack, and almost every vehicle has one in the trunk with the spare tire. Check your owners manual as to where yours is. Aftermarket jacks can cost $50 and up
your talking about a jack ! they vary ! it depends on where you buy them and what kind you want. i payed $50.00 for a 2 ton floor jack at walmart.

How do I change a tire on my car?

I know the basics I mean I know you need to jack up the car obviously. But the tire is shredded and it looks stuck. Yes i am a woman and NO i don't have any one to help me. The wheel of the car kinda looks scraped but I dont think it is bent. Please advise I can't afford to pay someone to do it so i just wanna buy a tire and give it a whirl! thanksHow do I change a tire on my car?
    Not going to happen.

You need a press, which will fit the tire on the wheel.

Then you need a balancing machine, to make sure the tire is properly balanced on the wheel, or it will drive horribly.

Then the alignment needs to be checked.

None of which, can you do.How do I change a tire on my car?
I think your best bet it trying to find a used tire place if your short on money.
Set the brake, loosen the lug nuts a turn or two and then jack up the car. After you get the lug nuts off, if the wheel is stuck, give it a good kick at the top of the rim, it should come off. Replace it with the spare, tighten the nuts. let it off the jack and then finish tightening the nuts, stand on the lug wrench if you can't tighten them enough by hand, just don't fall.

You will need to take the rim to a tire shop, Wal mart does tires in some stores, any of the national chains are pretty reliable.

It takes a special machine to break the tire's beads off of the rim. The shop will tell you if your rim is safe to reuse.
I'm guessing you mean how do you change out tire on the rim?

I have done this by hand but it's very hard. you will need tools that i'm guessing you don't' have. At very least you need 3 large screw drivers. When i did it i had ';tire spoons';. You use soapy water and pry around the rim using each screw driver to hold the tire down. You have to have a lot of compressed air to get the tire to pop onto the rim or you have to get some type of winch and wrap around the tire to squeeze it out on to the rim to get somewhat seated so you can start putting air into it.

After that point it's still not balanced and you will have problems.

Cheapest way is to buy a tire on the rim off caigslist.

Could someone explain to me how to change a tire on my vehicle?

I need a little help. The tire on my car needs to be changed but I'm not sure how to do it. I've got a spare, I just need instructions. =)Could someone explain to me how to change a tire on my vehicle?
Do you have a jack? Jack up the car, remove the wheel cover, take off the lugs, remove the tire. Then do it all in reverse with a new tire.

There are places that do this, and would be glad to help you. If you buy a new tire, they will even put it on for you and recycle the old one. Could someone explain to me how to change a tire on my vehicle?
remove the spare and the jack.loosen the lugs on the tire before you raise the car with the jack.just a little loose not off the tire.jack it up at the pinch weld on the side of the car.most are marked where to put the jack.make sure you are on level ground and the car is chocked at one wheel.remove the flat and install spare.tighten the lugs.let the car down till the tire touches the ground and will stop the tire from spinning when you tighten all the lugs to tight.lower the car all the way,and put the tools away.get the tire fixed as soon as possible.most places will reinstall the new tire and put all the spare stuff away for you when finished.

How do you change a tire?

Were two young girls and we need to place a blownout tire before my parents get home...How do you change a tire?
Put on your sexiest clothes and stand around your car with the hood (bonnet) open...it shouldn't be too long before some guy stops by and does it for you!

But if you really want to learn then put on your grungiest clothes and get to work. You have to set the emergency brake and put it in gear (or park) before trying to jack it up (only on LEVEL ground please). Before you start jacking it up, loosen the lug nuts (turn them counter-clockwise to loosen) but not all the way, just loose. Then put the jack at the JACKING points (you'll find these in the owner's manual which will also be VERY helpful in explaining how to change the tire) and start raising the car. As soon as the tire is off the ground, take off the lug nuts and keep them clean. Then pull the tire and wheel off (sometimes you need to kick it hard towards the car, to loosen it enough to pull it off). Then take that bad tire to the garage and have them fix the leak, and then put it right back on. Often times its a very simple repair, ie a nail in the tire that can be pulled out and the hole plugged...this doesn't even require taking the tire off the wheel. Now, when you put that wheel back on the car, you have to be sure to tighten those lug nuts so they don't come off. Take a look at the other wheel and see how far the bolt sticks out beyond the nut (if it does....sometimes the lug nuts are solid and you can't see the bolt/stud.)...you have to tighten these nuts as hard as you can.

Good luck...but be CAREFUL....and try to get some help with it first! How do you change a tire?
ha ha i hope ur parents beat ur little virgin as ses
Do u still have the car manual? If so, it'll spell it out for u. If not, is anyone with AAA? They'll come n chg it. If not, ask a neighbor? I'm in California %26amp; it's very late/early to bother them but I'm trying to think of something. The 1st time I tried to change a tire, I had the jack upside down! The tires are heavy and dirty too. Well I hope you get it done but I would suggest you just tell your parents %26amp; go w/the flow, then you could relax now.....until they get home.
Find the jack(should be under a seat)

    place it under the vehicle,

line it up with the frame

pump/twist it until that wheel is off the ground with a fair amount of more room, considering the non blown tire will be bigger.

Undo all the bolts on the wheel with the wrench(should also be under a seat in the vehicle)

then pull off the tire and

    push on the new one,

tighten the bolts again using the same force it took to get them off.

You must also re tighten the bolts when u lower the vehicle

    and after 60miles or 100km

How can I change 16'; tires to 14'; tires on my car?

You need to get the right size wheel, both diameter and width. Then just put tires on and mount them on your car.How can I change 16'; tires to 14'; tires on my car?
buy 14'; rims and tiresHow can I change 16'; tires to 14'; tires on my car?
yes, but it will look stupid
    with tools.
Buy 14'; wheels and tires that have the same lug nut pattern as your 16'; wheels.
Buy some 14'; tires then put them on. Don't forget to get your speedometer recalibrated.
Need new tires and rims however when you buy keep in mind to ensure the width, lug pattern, and offset are correct for your car
BUY A NEW SET OF RIM AND TIRE, MUST MATCH THE EXIST HEIGHT OF THE TIRE, SO THAT THE SPEEDO WOULD WORK ACCURATELY.
By finding 14'; rims with the same bolt pattern that will fit on your vehicle. Then buy tires that will fit the rims. Now be aware that your speedometer will be off. Also be aware that your vehicle wasn't designed to run on those little bitty tires, and that the suspension may be off, that the car will be lower and there could be damage, lots of reasons not to do it. But if you really want to...
Do you have wheels already mounted in your 14'; tires? If you do then take the T bar normally found in your trunk and unscrew your lug nuts. Pull the 16'; tires off and pull the 14'; on and screw the lug nuts back in. Make sure to screw them tightly and rotate the tire as you go. Make sure its weight tight, meaning its tight enough by using your body weight. If you dont have a jack or somewhat weak to unscrew the lug nuts take the tires to a car shop where they can do it for you. You can probably get a balance done while at it.
Go to an expert for advice.

Have you thought of why the manufacturer put 16'; tires on you vehicle.
