Stick a penny in the tred. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head you need new tires. How do u no when to change your tires?
when you see there is no thread on your tiresHow do u no when to change your tires?
Legally, there must be at least 3 millimetres (an eighth of an inch) of tread all the way across and all the way round. That's about the thickness of a match head. Any less and they should be changed.
Hi there, if you look at the tread of the tyre you`ll see every so often there is a little wear limit (small raised area in between tread) when the rest of the tread gets down to this it`s time to replace your tyres.
3/32 of an inch is where the wear bars start to show in the tread of your tires, thats when they need replacing. if you live in a snowy area, having that low tread is unsafe in my eyes so tires are a good investment to stay safe on the road. look for tires that have a good rating for the conditions that you drive in, for example tirerack.com or something.
good luck
It's only a few hundred bucks every year or so so if you aren't sure you should go to a tire shop and if they think it's time get a new set. Tires start to lose their full ability to keep good traction, especially in rain before you start to get down to the ware bars so don't wait till it's too late.
Most tires now have a wear bar in the tread. When this is flush with the tread it is time for a tire replacement.
Tires have guard bars in the tread grooves. When the tire is worn to the point that these are level with the top of the tread, it's time for new tires.
Have them checked by a professional at a service station. Don't go where they sell tires because they will probably say you need them when you don't.
If you can take a penny with Abe Lincoln facing you upside down and place it in the deep part of the tread, you replace the tires if you can see his hair. It's approxmately 1/8th of an inch.
