How often do tires go bad? Is it inevitable, can they outlast their lifespan?

How long do tires usually last, even if you don't drive that much? Is it indefinite, or does it strictly depend on wear and tear? To most people have to change a tire or two EVERY year? Is it inevitable?

Tires deteriorate from sitting in one position and being exposed to the elements so yes, it is inevitable that they will need replacement.

The better the tire the longer they will resist deterioration from sitting still but they all return to that which they came.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

If yours are blowing out sitting still at the rate of 1 or 2 a year I would have to say you have a vandal or you are buying the cheapest tires ever made.

Good Luck! How often do tires go bad? Is it inevitable, can they outlast their lifespan?
Tires actually have a shelf life. The DOT code on the tire gives you the date of manufacture. the last 4 numbers are the week and year the tire was built. Example the last 4 are 3508 so the tire was built in the 38th week of 2008. if the numbers are only 3 digits then it was built in the 90's. experts are saying that tires should be replaced every 8 years regardless of tread wear.
I get 6 years or so out of a set of tires. But I drive almost exclusively long distance on interstates. I buy 8 ply 80 psi E rated 80,000 mile General tires. At one time I used Goodyear tires and yea I'd change them about every 2 years. I had a Michelin blow out on me 20 years ago and I wouldn't take a set for free whether or not that's warranted
Hi

There is one more thing beside the tread life span and how much you drive ... oh and tire perisher. it would be weather checking .. the side walls of a tire are can get weather checked , cracked and split from the sun and weather. they well last longer if you keep them covered like you see on big motor homes and such with those tire covers. There purity cheap at like Harbor Freight. like under $10.oo for a set of 4.

good luck

Tim
you've got something wrong if you're changing tires every year. lifespan depends totally on whether or not you have low-profile tires, and on how soft the rubber is. most of the time, tires with great traction sacrifice longevity and vice-versa.
it depends on several things, like alignment, and how tight the front end is, shocks and tire balancing.
