They are part of a finely tuned team of pit mechanics. they are not there just to change the tyres, but that's mainly what we the public see. they train together, travel together and work together to make a team of people who all perform their individual task at maximum speed and efficiency to get their driver back out asap. the tyre men also have other jobs in the garage and yes they do get paid well and yes they do travel to every race.
